About Us

We are a Field-based (off-campus) Graduate Program in Education which began its alternative delivery in 1994 at Trinity College of Vermont. In May, 2001, it moved to Southern New Hampshire University's new Vermont Graduate Programs. The program occurs in school communities, oftentimes in rural settings, recognizing the professional educators working environment as a vital center of learning. The program offers a Certificate of Professional Studies (C.P.S.), a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and/or a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.).

Our Constructivist Philosophy allows graduate students flexibility to create a focus and develop greater expertise in any endorsement level; at the same time, state-of-the-art research and pedagogy are gained from instructors' high standards. This individualization also allows graduate students the ability to "match" the program's content to local school-specific needs and cultures.

An Action Research Practicum takes the place of a traditional Graduate thesis.

All courses and program activities occur off-site in cohort models within local communities, where area professional educators work together over a period of several years. The networking and collegial support to insure culture-specific change and improvement therefore continues even after the degree is completed. Internet models of instruction are also integrated into our interpersonal delivery.

Graduate classes are taught in condensed weekend formats during the school year by Southern New Hampshire University faculty who are state and regional experts, highly known for their expertise in a variety of professional positions in the field of education. Summer classes occur in one week timeframes.

The Field-based Graduate Program in Education is accredited by the New England Association for Schools and Colleges (NEAS & C).

One must be a practicing educator to be admitted to the program. Our Testimonials speak to the direct application of this program to their school setting. Other requirements for Admission include: successful completion of the program's ProFile Seminar, a successful Undergraduate record, submission of an Application form and fee and a recent supervisory evaluation (or three letters of reference). GRE's are not required.
